Well, being of Scottish parentage I've always felt a little uncomfortable going anywhere near supporting England.

It has been creeping up on me serruptitiously however and this time I've found myself nearly wholesomely going for it.

Why does it strike me that that I shouldn't be surprised they haven't lived up to the hype?

I think you're allowed one bad game - and a team that wins when playing badly is doing OK...

but they really, really ought to play better than that if we're still following them a few weeks down the line...?

I'm willing to accept the excuse that it was very hot, and the lads just need a bit of work in the heat. Not forgetting that they plyed very well in the first half, and I thought Becks, Gerrard and Crouch had blinders.

The defence need to stop piddling around with it, though. I can see a nasty accident befalling Rio if he doesn't clear dangerous balls with a bit more conviction.

We only need to beat T&T on Thursday to guarantee our place in the second round now, though.

I thought Lampard did alright - but Joe Cole ? Waste of space for me - though Hargreaves then came on and showed that you could do worse.

Weird, I thought Joe Cole was one of the top three most productive players on Saturday... but then that might not be saying much.

But I agree there is no way on Earth Hargreaves should be in that squad.

At the end of the day, we won. 6 more scrappy 1-0 wins where we look a bit pants but still win and we're world champions!

Iran vs Mexico is strangely entertaining though...
