It was a gift. I've no idea how much it's worth, but I think it's on the expensive side, though not antique.
Can one use a Vax on such things? Will the dye fade or run if I wash it? Does the cleaning method depend on knots-per-inch or something?

I suspect no wait! I know it needs to be hand washed I think. Persian carpets are indeed on the expensive side and need to be looked after nicely. Hand washing should be okay, although I think you can get people to do it for you....but unless you happen to have a carpet seller etc near you I'd just hand do it with normal washing soap.

I have one that needs cleaned and I seem to remember that i ended up deciding the best way was to get someone to do it professionally.
