A Conversation for How do I...?

... clean a tarnished/rusty bell

I have an old bell that is tarnished and looks like it has rust spots. I've never been sure what it's made of, other than base metal, but the 'rust' makes me assume it's made of steel. What's the best way to clean it and remove any rust. I don't want to damage it as it has quite a nice tone.

Soak it in mineral oil, most of the dirt will come off and the metal is not really damaged by it.

I posted this here as well as on Ask h2g2 'cos I wasn't sure which would give me the most suggestions.

Where do I get mineral oil from?
