h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

By accident I discovered that I am listed as one of the persons who has written/posted the most text in 24 hours at H2G2.
I was surprised.
Always asume that what I'm doing everyone else is also doing.

BUT,............................
after ALL these written words,
I,
still,
have
néver,
appeared to be able,
to put
ány smartie
in
my
text.

I must confess I even just typed <SMILEY TYPE="ant"/> with the naïve
expectation that a nice butterfly would appear..........
(are you still out there?)
I guess, I just should'nt be around in this digital world.

Is there an Entry for mentally and emotionally disabled H2G2 researchers who appear to have intentions to jump from the Tower
cause they can't bear the fact that they have been beaten by digital smarties who seem to stick at their websites and refúse to move in ány direction you want, cause they just don't like you, just because
you don't really seem to love them as they are but only love them where YOU want them to be somewhere else..................

Maybe, it's because I called them here Smarties instead of Smiley's.

How do you write the pluralism of Smiley?

i think it's just smileys...
are you unsure of how to make smileys in postings?
most of them are the name of the smiley in between < and >
for example would be < rocket > without the spaces...
some smileys have shorter versions, for example : - ) without spaces would turn into

Why can't these things be copiëd and then placed.

There is a missing link for me in getting the message.

I see all kinds of symbols in connection to the smileys.
i also see "short-symbols".

But what TO DO , step by step.

I JUST DON'T GET IT.

There really should be a step to step guide in using these things.

Yes, I've been there many times.

Beautifull smileys,

nice symbols, some for Forum 1 (??????????????) others for Forum 2 (????????????????) and some for H2G2 GL (????????????????????).

and just typing these codes won't create a symbol.

So I give up and I múst say, there isn't ánywhere at that entry a step by step instruction of HOW to ever GET these things.

But, I appear not to have the digital intuïtion, or I even don't know what I don't have to be able to do it.
My circle is round again.
I give up.

May my daughter ever come from New york this summer and explain me.
Till then, no yellow digital "communicators" in my writing.

And by the way; The H2G2 seems to be EXTREMELY slow today. it takes about two to three minutes to open a page.
Maybe it's my provider.
I don't think so, because that doesn't happen when I'm around other websites.

if you go HERE <./>Smiley</.> and under the heading "Long Code" in the smiley list, you will see the code for the smiley that you want, you must copy ALL of it, including the < > at the side of the smilies,
and then put it in your posting and it will turn into a smiley

So áfter you've done all your homework, it will appear when you have posted it / or in a preview.(and not just when you have written it).

Yes, it's a nice smiley.

I have put it as the first one in my journal.
But it's about Ice skating.
So maybe in the future you can make an ice-skating smiley?

Alfredo, if you want to place smileys in your personal space, you will have to change that to <./>DontPanic-GuideML</.> first.

Make sure it starts with





and ends with




Use to start a new line.
Insert smileys with <SMILEY TYPE="towel"/> or whichever you prefer.

Eh - actually you can use smileys in your personal space using the same method as in conversations with the <> as long as your user page is still in plain text (default mode)..

..but if you change it to GuideML then you'll have to use the method Marijn mentions..
