A few of my own historical entries you might like to add:

A236323 Cenozoic Era
A232318 Willebrord Snell
A230653 History of Brickmaking
A224948 Sacbut
A222030 Castrati
A219034 The Grange
A208216 History of the Tin Can
A202717 Cold Fusion
A194032 Tijuana Bible
A192881 Monterey Jack Cheese
A191657 New Madrid Earthquakes
A186158 Black Dahlia
A180352 Kaleidoscope

As you can see, my interests are eclectic, to say the least. I suppose you could say I'm most fascinated by the history of everyday things, though my actual graduate work was in the history of science and engineering.

Cheers! I've added a number of them just now, and I'll add a few of the foodie ones when I get round to making a section devoted to the History of Food and Drinks (complete with drinks cabinet).

Excellent job. Thanks for taking this on. I'll try to remember to let you know when I've had another fit of history.

Once this develops a bit, we ought to try to get Peta interested as a possible "Pick" page. You never know, perhaps subject-oriented organization would appeal to other Researchers, or even to the Powers That Be.

Fantasy, I would say. But then, I was raised as a hardcore skeptic.

Now, an article on the history of modern Atlantean thought, tracing the folks who popularized this stuff, would be history smiley - smiley

No problems with the history of Beer, I've already done it, can't remember where I put it though. Probably off my userpage called Beeer(mark II) or something.

Indeed, ffmike, the * concept * of or * belief * in an Atlantis goes back centuries, and is therefore just as historical and incontrovertible as the Pyramids.

History of beliefs (and the reasons behind them) comes under anthropology, something I have great interest in.

One thing I want to say is, I don't want to turn this into an encyclopaedia. There's much more scope here than to simply be a repository of dusty old facts.

Yep, it would be nice to see some serious work here...historiography, history of ideas, whatever. However one must temper that with a general awareness that putting anything on H2G2 pretty well poisons its copyright. So it's got to be a labor of love.

I try to at least find interesting old facts instead of dusty ones. smiley - smiley

er...as I am sure there is a great clamour for the history of Ohio, may I suggest the article on Toledo, Ohio, USA
http://www.h2g2.com/A188615

It deals with the Great Toledo War, which is how Toledo became part of Ohio, and how the Upper Penninsula was added to Michigan.

I'm sure folks are panting for this one....

ffMike, I can't BELIEVE you didn't tell me about this place.

Mustapha, this is an excellent idea and I'm sorry I didn't see it sooner myself *sniff*. I will be adding a link to this page at my
own home straightaway, for my own benefit if no-one else's.

And I have an article that may be of interest, on Billy the Kid; I will eventually be adding other articles on that subject:
