Everytime I come here these days I have real trouble getting to some messages or posting them.On several occasions my browser has frozen and I have to end task to get the PC back.I have even got the dreaded MS error messages on 3 occasions. As my 24/7 days a week ISP only gives me an hour before disconnecting me this is very irritating indeed.I thought it might be overuse on my ISP but I still have trouble even at off peak times and even on my very reliable ISP through Cable&Wireless lite which usually just zips through(I have to pay for the phone call so time is money).I only began to have this problem after the'facelift'last week. Will things be getting back to normal or am I going to have to give up on this site.Shame as I like it here.Sorry to be so grumpy but my other fave site is being a pain as well.

I suspect that it's going to be a long time before you can give me an answer especially as I've had to End Task twice in ten minutes and I've posted twice to one message due to the SLLoowwness of this site.If you are having half the problems I am it's gonna take
you days,I know I'm not the only one as Choas Master has had just as many difficulties as I.(

I got up very early this cold wet Saturday morning(only God knows why I wake up early when I DON'T HAVE TO).So I gave this site anther go.Surprise!everything is much better and faster. There are only 20 online this morning(can't tell you about last night as I couldn't get anything to work)so perhaps it does have something to do with numbers online at peak times after all.So I'm relegated to coming here before I go to work during the week.Sigh!Unless you know better of course.

One of the databases was having problems. It seems to be working much better now. The technical team are keeping an eye on the situation, and will try to keep you informed.
It's SOO Much Betterrrr.

Well... What about trying to reinstall your OS (dont like to spell it out .. I messed my OS up. REALLY MESSED IT UP. I must say that i really really messed it up! After i messed some registry entries up and messed some dll`s up which i never should have been messing up, i found out that my vertical scrollbar did not work on NO APPLICATION anymore. Well THATS WHAT I CALL MESSED UP! But i got no errors with this page, so... Guess: Did you backup your properly installed system? Well, if not, plan in 1.225 MSHours (1 Microsoft hour is approx 7 realtime Hours) to flush your Harddisk and to reinstall the largest Computervirus known on earth, and then add another 22 MSHours to mess your system up again by reinstalling your beloved software.
Another point is that you could try to switch the local echo on your modem off or put down the repeat rate of your keyboard. At least that is what your subject line indicates

Every time today that I logged on in IE5 I keep getting an error message and another that closes the window.I'm now reduced to using the dreaded netscape browser to view the site and to post to conversations. It is only a problem at this site for IE5 which works just fine everywhere else so far. Why?
A very glum Incognitas

I'm not getting the dreaded this program has performed an illegal operation so far today at this site in IE5 but I can't post to anything in IE5 at this site as it just stops downloading the right page(myISP disconnects me after 15 mins inactivity and if I try anything else the page freezes).I'm back to the Netscape browser to post this message. God how I hate netscape browser.I must really like this site to persevere like this. Most people would just give up.

It sounds like you might have a corrupted IE5.
I'm using IE5.1 & not having any unusual problems with it.
If you're using Windows you could try IE's self repair facility.
Start/Setting/Control Panel/Add-Remove Programs, double click IE5 & select Microsoft IE5 & Internet Tools on the Install/Uninstall tab. Then select "Repair IE" on the popup, hit OK (your system will need to reboot at the end of this).
hope it helps

ditto
?????
Unbelievable. I can go make a cup of tea after I've clicked on 'my space' and my page will be just about loaded when I get back!!!
Half the time, only the top half of the page loads and I have to quit the browser (netscape) and restart it. I'm on a Mac G4, and cable. I should not have speed problems.
I did think the problem was the fact that I was on a Mac. The 'Internet's' favourite computer is not a Mac. (Silly thing)
But, when I read the above post...well, I just had to speak up.
(ie I don't bother to preview messages, it takes far to long....I just hope there are no errors.

Well I tried that and couldn't repair it.So I decided to upgrade to IE5.5 from a cd.Big mistake!I couln't get at my address book in Outlook Express or send mail.I then had to PAY for a phone call to C&W ISP(just in case the download took longer than an hour) to download IE5.1 and Outlook Express from Microsoft. This has worked to sort out THAT fiasco BUT I still can't get at the site through IE as it still freezes on me.Glad I'm not the only one-I was feeling like a voice in the wilderness so to speak.I'm starting to relate to that tv advert where the PC operator destroys his PC in a fit of rage.I know this feeling so well.I will repeat for everyone.I ONLY HAVE TROUBLE WITH THIS SITE IN IE and I do not believe it is a corrupted IE.AS I had to wait for ages last night for h2g2 to load in Netscape I think it IS a problem at this site.
I guess the netscape browser is growing on me.

I also am finding it really slow. It wasn't great yesterday and it is only getting worse today. I am using netscape, and I have had it give up and claim the server does not exist a couple of times. What's the feedback forum address, I should crawl over there and leave a note as well?
IE works fine (for a Micr0$0ft prog)
Warlk Posted Nov 30, 2000
I have never had any problems with this site, using IE 4, 5.01, or 5.5. It also seems to be rather fast (but it is 1AM).

Munchkin Posted Nov 30, 2000
I mentioned this in the feedback forum a couple fo days ago. They do admit there is a problem (which does seem to vary with time, number of people?) and they are looking in to it. We'll just have to wait and see.
IE 5.5 - Ever more problems...
Chris Tonks Posted Dec 7, 2000
Yeah, just thought I'd add my name to the list of researchers having problems with IE 5.5...ho hum..
I really *hate* having to use Nutscrape, sorry, Netscape...deary me...
Slowness
Six by Nine Posted Jan 2, 2001
I agree, the site does seem very slow at peak times.
I also agree that IE5.5 is bad . I havn't tried it myself but a freind did and regretted it...
beeeeecaaaaaaauuuuusseee you have the wrong browser?
Zaphod.Beeblebrox Posted Jan 4, 2001
this page is very slow in Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator, but very fast when you use Opera 5.
