Whilst reading discussions on some of your threads, I see faces, thumbs etc. co-joined with the author's name. How may I also use these icons?--probably the wrong word. Kasese

'Smileys' (as they're called) can be dropped into conversations in a couple of ways. Some can be put in as symbols. For example : - ) (with no spaces) produces 
Alternatively, you can put the description of the Smiley in , so < smiley > (again, without spaces) will also produce . For a full list, look at A155909 (and clicking on any Smiley in a conversation will also take you to the main page.

Click on one of them and you'll magically be taken to the <./>Smileys</.> page where you can learn everything worht knowing about them!
