I've forgotten my password

Hello, I am in need of some help. I have forgotten my password, and I didn't write it down. Oops, sorry.
I've logged on rambling's page, so I could report it.
My nick name is Still thinking about it, and this is my page
http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/U183846
could you please e-mail a reminder to me? I promise to write it down this time.

If you go to http://www.bbc.co.uk/cgi-perl/mybbc/mybbc?fp=1 then logout and go there again, you'll see an forgotten password option which e-mails you a new one. The only snag is that you need to remember your log-in name, which may or may not be the same as your H2G2 username.

Howdy, gang.
Well, I have quite a conundrum for you - h2g2 support may solve it tomorrow, but in the meantime I have nothing to do but complain !
Not really. But I thought I'd point it out because it's a loophole that I didn't realize existed.
Here's the deal: For quite a while now, I've been using the cookie to take me to my user space (U144292). Well, I tried to log in Monday and found the cookie had been removed - eek! So I did the usual and popped into MyBBC, logged out, and typed in Lentilla and my e-mail account for a new password. It told me that it didn't recognize 'Lentilla' as a username. So I'm stumped.
I just e-mailed h2g2 support yesterday, and they sent a reply saying 'try logging out of MyBBC first!' so I guess they didn't understand the question. I wrote them a longer more explanatory e-mail today.
Oh well - anything you can do is appreciated! - Lentilla

When I try it, 'Lentilla' is recognized as a username, but for obvious reasons I couldn't get much further as I don't know your e-mail address and I gave up after a couple of likely possibilities .

Lentilla, we have sent you an email with regard to this problem. We think you might be entering the wrong username.
We hope this solves the situation and if it does then we are glad to be of service.

Argh!
Lentilla, yet not Lentilla Posted Sep 11, 2001
No, unfortunately it doesn't help a bit!
I don't want to be snippy, but it appears that you're not reading the e-mails at all.
'Lentillallitnel' is the name that I'm currently using to allow me access to the help desk. It was created around the time that the BBC was re-doing the website, and I haven't used it since (until now.) THIS IS NOT the username that I need access to. Obviously I'm having no problem with access to Lentillallitnel because I'm here now. (I actually wrote down the password and username for THIS account.)
I need access to my normal account, Lentilla @ U144292. This is rather more important than the other one. All my conversations are on there, the articles that I've written, and my journals.
We'll need to find out whether 'Lentilla' is still linked to this account as a username, and if it isn't, what that username is. Then a password can be re-assigned, and all that information sent to my e-mail address. Please, please, please help so that I can get back on track and rejoin some rather interesting conversations!

P.S. - Mycroft, are you looking at the 'Who's Online' list? Whenever I type in 'Lentilla' to the 'Forgot Your Password' page on the MyBBC site, it tells me that it doesn't recognize it as a username.
Argh!
Lentilla, yet not Lentilla Posted Sep 11, 2001
And now, when I went to visit the Yahoo Scouts website, it didn't recognize me either. Weirder yet, it didn't accept my password, and when I went to get a new password, it told me that the information I'd entered (birthdate and zip code) was incorrect. I think I'd remember my own birthdate and zip code.
Maybe this particular burble is due to the recent disaster in New York and Washington.
Argh!
Mycroft Posted Sep 12, 2001
I'm not sure what the Who's Online list has to do with it. I just go to the Forgotten Password screen, enter 'Lentilla' and an e-mail address and only the e-mail address is rejected.
Is your e-mail address on one of your H2G2 pages?
Argh!
Lentilla, yet not Lentilla Posted Sep 12, 2001
Forgotten password screen? I presume you mean the MyBBC screen... I'll go there again & check. Maybe they're having server problems.
And no, I've tried to keep my e-mail address off of my h2g2 page. I'm trying (although I'm not doing a very good job!) of staying relatively anonymous... it doesn't really matter, but if I ever felt the need to comment on some illicit or illegal activity, I'd like to keep it private.
Argh!
Mycroft Posted Sep 12, 2001
Just to be tediously specific about it, I mean the screen whose first two lines are 'MyBBC ONLINE' and 'Forgotten your password?'
Just to be even more tedious (and patronizing too ), remember it's case sensitive i.e. lentilla is not a valid username whereas Lentilla is.
Argh!
Lentilla, yet not Lentilla Posted Sep 12, 2001
Hmm... Yep, that's where I was, too. Okay. Just making sure...
I'd forgotten about it being case sensitive, but I'm pretty sure that I used uppers and lowers. I'll try it again, just to be sure (and because I'm desperate!)
Thanks for the input - wish me luck!
- Lentilla
hope springs eternal...
Lentilla, yet not Lentilla Posted Sep 12, 2001
Well, I just tried it again, and evidently I did not use an upper-case L. It told me it was e-mailing my new password, so we'll see what happens. Yeah! Thanks, dude.
Hurrah! Hugs and kisses for Mycroft!
Lentilla (Keeper of Non-Sequiturs) Posted Sep 12, 2001
Well, I feel silly.
I've mailed three e-mails to h2g2 support 'explaining my position,' just sent one to bbc support, posted a couple of times here - and all it wanted was an upper case L. Duh.... I feel really dumb. (we need a 'duh' smiley. Preferably one with its upper teeth sticking out and eyes crossed.)
Thank you very much, Mycroft - you've made my day. Now I can go comment on all this awfulness that's been going on.
Hurrah! Hugs and kisses for Mycroft!
h2g2Support Posted Sep 12, 2001
Apologies for the delay and the confusion Lentilla. We are glad you have now regained your identity.
Can we take the opportunity to stress that all BBC log-ins and passwords are case sensitive.

Hurrah! Hugs and kisses for Mycroft!
Lentilla (Keeper of Non-Sequiturs) Posted Sep 12, 2001
Yay! No apologies necessary - I feel very silly.
I'm tempted to write up a simple paragraph explaining the ins and outs of regaining your password... Something that could be linked from the Don't Panic page.
