What happened to the new ACE recruitment drive?

Hey, what happened to the big deal you guys were making about recruiting new ACEs? I was real upbeat about joining you guys, and I haven't even received that e-mail that I was supposed to get after leaving a message in that forum ! This after I just get four months of freedom, not to mention the fact that I just finished reading the entire Hitchhiker series within two days. Now be a bunch of nice guys and lemme in, because I've got a few friends I wanna recruit and welcome personally, know what I mean...

well, some new ACEs were just recruited... erm... yesterday, as of this writing. Maybe you two should go set up camp over at Peta's place and ask her... as I am rather hopeless with such questions.

Celebrate! I finally received that e-mail from Peta and should be an official ACE soon! Ciao!

I get there, finally. Jenny I didn't have you on the list, I can add you on now though if you'd still like to join the team. Sorry I missed you off... I'm going to write a recruitment page, which should make it all a lot easier to find new recruits.

i mean i'd love to be an ACE but i don't think i ever really applied due to my complete and total lack of organisational skills, how does one go about doing so?

And what exactly does one need to become an ACE?

You need to know your way around h2g2, have a reasonable amount of free time, and generally be friendly.
As you probably know, we welcome new people and (supposedly) look for new articles that are nice and send the addresses along to Peta (I haven't done any of this yet. I've welcomed lots of people, but all the articles I've found are either pointless but funny, or already found)...
there's no fixed time on h2g2 or number of things to stick to (unlike Subbing), so it's a little easier than subbing. Still. It's good fun.

That sounds like something I could (and would like to) do
now for the crunch: do you want more ACE's or are there enough already?
i other words: can I join? please?

Ok... lots of questions to answer. Sorry, I should have answered them this morning, but I've been at a friend's house all day long. (Actually, a friend of my sister's ... but anyway.)....
It's absolutely fine to say hi to people... as long as you don't get in the way of ACE's... *g*... (had to add that line... hehe)...
I think (but don't quote me on this) that we're always looking for ACEs. You'll have to find the ACEs recruitment page... The way I did it was to go through the Sub-Editors recruitment page, but I then decided that I didn't want to be a sub, because I don't have enough time (at the moment). If you want to do that, you can look in my postings history, and there's something in there somewhere.
I'm not sure, but it might be linked to on the ACE's Homepage (http://www.h2g2.com/A214796). And if you don't find either of those two things, either ask another (more competant) Ace, or go directly to Peta ...
There... is that all the Qs answered? I think so.
Anyway... have fun, all!
- Njan.

While it is true that Peta is always looking for active and interesting researchers to become ACEs, she seems to prefer recruiting in bunches. A huge batch of ACEs were just signed up, and judging by past history, it may be several months before the next batch is recruited. However, it never hurts to let Peta know you are interested. Just pop over to her home page and say hi.

Anyone who wants to be an ACE should apply here:
http://www.h2g2.com/A210664
The link is off Peta's home page.
Unfortunately, asking an ACE if you can BE an ACE is sort of like asking your friend with the great job if you can work there, too. What you really need to do is ask the boss. In this case, the boss is Peta. . Of course, anyone can meet and greet newcomers, and you don't need a fancy badge to do it.

It is great to know that more people wish to become ACEs. If you put your name down on the list cited by billypilgrim, I will nip over there and take down the details of all the volunteers. I will check with Peta and let you know when potentially we will be handing out more ACE badges.
In the interim please continue to welcome new researchers - it helps the community to flourish and offers them a way into the maze of pages that forms the site.
