Sorry, but hte real guide at least has 'Dont panic' on the cover. I'm totally lost on this sight. Can someone logical and organized explain any or all of the following to me?

HOW do you submit something for peer review?
WHAT do you submit? Like, can I submit an eggsalad recipe, or does it have to be quantum physics?
WHAT do you do for fun around here? Is there any chat? Storytelling? Hey, does anyone here know the name Douglas Adams?
WHAT is this HTML alternative, and when do you use it. For ex, I'm not using it now, so when would I? and what does it do, and why is it so cool?
HOW do you not get totally lost in the millions of help menus that appear every time you try to do something simple, like say, read something?
WHAT should I go for first? What's the tourist attraction around here?
DO people really visit other people's places and read their stuff?
Thanks

hi ya, i am going to give you the standard welcome i give all newbies to this site and i hope it clears up most of your questionssmiley - ok any it doesn't i will try and answer at the end...or duringsmiley - smiley

Welcome LeoAlpha smiley - biggrin

well you finally made it, what took you so long? oh well never mind that, you're here now smiley - ok

If you didn't already know, H2G2 was founded by Douglas Adams. He was the writer of the Hitchikers Guide to the Galaxy and Dirk Gently books. I highly recommend you read them as quite a few references to the books are used here on Hootoo. (Hootoo being the pet name for this site adopted by many researcherssmiley - ok)

He left a note, well introduction for all to read here <./>DNA-Introduction</.>. Well worth a read.

just for the record, this is not an automated message. my name here is Creachy. i am applying to be an <./>ACE</.> (Assistant Community Editor) which involves welcoming newbies such as yourself, and i, like you, was once new and lost smiley - erm
so i have taken it upon myself to help other newbies that may require it and welcome them to this wonderful world smiley - earth

if you like the smileys i am using and don't know how to do them yet then click on this fella -----> <./>smileys</.> for a full list smiley - smiley and how to do them. you won't believe how easy it is, i couldn't anyway and i was an invalid when i first joinedsmiley - silly

you may also have noticed some other pages that look all fancy and sparkly(so yes, people do visit each others spaces and read them). this is because they are done in Guide ML(which is the HTML alternative), which enables pictures and different fonts to be used. for easy, and i mean EASY step by step instructions to do this click here ----> A690518

i don't want to bog you down with too much info to start with so i will leave it there.smiley - biggrin

if you have any questions please don't be scared to ask. i am here to help afterall.

there's plenty to do on this site and read, so just click on anything that takes your fancy and get exploring, this is a huge site!(so the best way to find fun is to get clicking. it really is the best way, believe me)

one more tip, if you like the jip of some other researcher you may have encountered in a convo, then you can view their page by clicking on their name and then leave a hello message for them.

happy researching.

And remember, <./>DontPanic</.> (you asked for this i believe)
smiley - cheers

and to submit something to peer review, just click on the 'submit for review' option in the box to the right of your screen. it has to be a guide entry and it would be better to do it in guide ml but other than that it can be on whatever you think is of use to the worldsmiley - cheers

We also have the <./>Dontpanic-Tour</.> and the <./>Dontpanic-FAQ</.> (accessed not by a Don't Panic button, but via the help link at the top of the page).

For the edited guide have a read of the <./>Contribute</.> page and the Writing-Guidelines.

Writing-GuideML (basically HTML with bells on) covers a bit about GuideML, which you would use to make articles look a bit more interesting.

The best way really to get to know the Edited Guide is to read it, so you can either use the <./>Index</.> or bounce round random entries: <./>RandomEditedEntry</.>.
