Feisor - -0- Generix I made it back - sortof ...

Regardless of what the account was when the thread was started - I think that when the ACE Welcome was posted it was a h2g2 account - otherwise Emmily should not have been able to post her Welcome.

So all is smiley - ok

No, it definitely wasn't on h2g2. The thread which vanished while I was looking was labelled "collective". Perhaps Emmily could try posting somewhere else on collective, to see if she has signed up to it sometime without noticing/remembering; or if there's something else going on instead, like a bug(?) in being an ACE that lets you cross-post to other sub-sites.

Hmmm...there is a logical explanation for this, are you sitting comfortably, then I'll begin.smiley - smiley

A few weeks back someone posted a request on my pet adoption page, I posted the requested coding, which the person put on their PS. Later, they posted asking why it wasn't showing in Collective. I replied that was because Collective was a message board, and didn't have a PS, that's what I remember being told, that only h2g2 has a PS's. Anyhow I used SEFs PS to goto Collective and clicked 'sign in' in to have a look around. I assumed I would automatically be signed out when I closed h2g2 window (I probably used 'Back' to return to h2g2) or turned computer off, but that didn't happen, I've just been to Collective, I'm still signed in, and can't sign out, I keep getting 'Bad Request' window when I click 'Sign Out'. smiley - erm

There isn't any meaning in 'signing out' of one particular DNA site or SSO service. If you've agreed to the terms and conditions on a particular site, then that's permanent. You don't need to sign in to each site each time. If you've logged in to h2g2, you can move immediately to collective or the messageboards.

"For ACEs it would come in handy to at least know what sites they have Signed-In to.

Perhaps you can reset the bit ? 'lil ol me' has also Signed in to the Collective and can also post a HooToo ACE greeting on the collective. "

It's not just ACEs. It might be handy for everyone to be able to access a list of the sub-sites their account has joined - something like the friends list perhaps (ie watch). I think it has been mentioned/requested casually before now. I doubt there's money for coding it though.

Ah, ok then I must have been lurking on h2g2, while not signed in (I often do that) went to Collective, signed in there, it remembered my cookies and now everytime I sign in on h2g2 I'm also signed in to Collective.

Yeah, yeah, I know I'm signed in to all the message boards but they won't recognise me in the same way Collective does because I haven't specifically signed in on them. smiley - erm

Should U3901830 "The Devils in the Details" be aced? Appears to only have posted on Danny Wallace, but that means we can't tell whether they intend to post here too, or have just ended up here with no intention of sticking around. smiley - erm

Help! I've left them for now, apart from them and someone whose PS is being modded, the list is clear.

I wouldn't - it looks like a regular DW user who probably signed up on h2g2 thinking it would stop the Danny Wallace hosts from being able to ban him or pre-mod him.

I got a 'Your BBC Posting has been removed' email (5th in just over 4 yrs on hootoo) from Collective over that Ace Welcome that I posted in error that was removed. I'm curious, am I the first Ace to have an Ace Welcome removed and a 'Your BBC Posting has been removed' email about its removal?

The idea that I was spamming when I posted multiple Welcomes used to worry me a little, but I've never heard of it being a problem for any Aces, unless anyone knows differently. smiley - erm

"It is spamming.

The idea behind ACEing is (for what I read in the archives) you do it personally. Give a warm < <./>Welcome</.> >, directed to the new Researcher, and make sure you are there to guide the Researcher to the Guide. smiley - smiley

>"It is spamming" smiley - shhh I won't tell anyone if you don't smiley - whistle

Ah, but that was in the 'good old days' TiT, when a Researcher had to post something on their PS before anyone could post on it, there was something there to personalise the Welcome on. Now we're mostly posting on PS that say

>"This is the Personal Space of (blah blah). Unfortunately (blah blah) doesn't seem to have found the time to write anything by way of an introduction yet, but hopefully that will soon change.

By the way, if you've become a member but haven't yet written an Introduction to your Personal Space, then this is what your Space looks like to visitors (and, in the same way that you can't leave a message here for this Researcher, others won't be able to leave messages for you on your Space). You can change this by clicking on the 'My Space' button, going to your Space, clicking on the 'Edit Page' button, and entering your own Introduction - it's highly recommended!"

You can't personalise that. smiley - laugh

And also there wasn't so many new reserchers joining as there is now. smiley - smiley
