A Conversation for Volunteer to be an Ace
Guide submissions???

I would like to be an ACE so that I could speed up the process of feedback on submitted articles.
So far I have submitted three, the first 14 weeks ago.
Three and a half months without feedback is depressing; after all how do I know if I'm on the right track? Not even at college with the worst lecturer do I have to wait so long.
The data will be decaying on the server with glitches and other time induced bugs multiplying exponentially.
No feedback = no enthusiasm = no logging on = no h2g2 and off I surf somewhere else!
Of course there may be something I've not done to speed up the process but clicking SUBMIT seemed to imply that the article would be submitted for approval or otherwise!
My other complaint is that there is no where to complain, so I chose You!

Methinks you have a misconception about ACEs. I just hired on to the job a few days ago, but I've been around longer than they have (I remember when this was mostly fields) so I've got a pretty good handle on it. The Assistant Community Editors are basically liasons for the community. We greet new people, and help show them around, and we also work on projects for the community, and we're even asked for input on certain issues by the editors. It's a cool post, but it isn't the post you're talking about.
The job you're talking about is that of Sub-Editor. The subs help the editors slog through the queue of submitted entries by performing a pre-emptive edit. They also get to make recommendations on the articles they sub, on whether they feel they should be Approved Guide Entries or not.
As for your own entries, there's no telling when they'll be subbed, since the length of time varies. I once had an article submitted for only a week before it was approved, but that is a rare exception. Others have languished for 30 or more weeks before getting attention, but that was before the sub program was begun. Hang in there, they'll get noticed. And until they get noticed by editors, you can always solicit the opinions of researchers, by submitting them to the section of the Post dedicated to that sort of thing.
As for the complaints, there are places for it. And people have complained about this issue... A LOT. The forum for feedback that's included on the bottom of the H2G2 homepage is one such place. Just hang in there, you'll make it.

And, while you're waiting for intervention from the officials, I went ahead and checked your articles, and offered what wisdom I possess. Hope it helps.
