I've only ever known the Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band's version of this song.

The Bonzo Dog's version is terrific, but this is the original, released in the 50's.

It's a very good version.

I love both versions of this very song.

When I worked in a library, the Children's Room played "Monster Mash" incessantly every Halloween. I always envisioned Fred McGwinn and other "Munsters" characters prancing around in monster costumes.

"Pogo" used to have a running gag every time the 13th day of a month failed to occur on a Friday. The turtle [whose name was Churchy LaFemme] would say, "Friday the 13th comes on a Wednesday [or Monday, etc.] this month."

The visuals on the first link might be improved a little with the lyrics for the chorus line scrolling by in a ribbon at the bottom of the screen.

I've always enjoyed that Boris Karloff narration.

I always thought it was fun and zany when I was listening to it when it was hot on the charts, but I never really understood it until one day I found myself repeating what the Witch Doctor said, "Ooh! Eee! Ooh! Aah! Aah!"

Then the meaning of it struck me, so naturally I followed through with, "Wallah, wallah bing-bang! ..."

I rarely even think about Friday the 13th. Even if the day brought bad luck, it wouldn't necessarily have anything to do with monsters.

For me, from now on, its a party day.

That's fine with me. It doesn't come that often, but neither do my opportunities for going to parties.
