Hope you are well Paul.
I've changed to an AppleMac, which is very nearly as good as Linux, but off-the-shelf.
I think some advert, or Apple themselves, pointed out last year that there were only 6 known Malware nasties on the whole Internet for the AppleMac system. But today there are none at all.
You may recall that I got myself into trouble with a link to a malware site for Microsoft, causing people to get really angry with me (I didn't know!), whereas it had caused me no trouble at all on Apple. Linux of course would be even better.
But I firmly believe it's the people, (such as you), not the computers, whom you can meet across the world on sites like this, that are so important, not the machinery - though I love playing with the machinery too. I do love my AppleMac! I do, I do, I do! (My famous and so far unbeaten Cowardly Lion impression - I ain't afraid of no spooks either).
Warmest wishes,
Jabs

That's great!
I have a PC, and it needs three separate anti-virus systems to keep the malware out. If two of the systems don't detect a virus, chances are the third one will, and will prompt me to quarantine it.

Something else that's new in terms of alternative operating systems:

Always sympathetic on computer trouble. Things I'm still looking for, a cookie skeet shooter utility with a "pull" button and appropriate animations, and a utility to shred undefragmentable files left behind after defragmentation.

Meanwhile, I've got Ubuntu Linux 10.04 on my hard drive, but I've been having trouble finding a broadband wireless Internet Service Provider to service it, an essential out where I live (the remoter wilds of the Coachella Valley, CA, about fifty miles east of Palm Springs and about ten miles North of Imperial County) and if my laptop is to travel with me everywhere, which it does.

I'm one of those people who prefer that computers work perfectly right out of the box. Adding stuff later is something I do if I have to, but I begrudge the time I have to spend on it.

Revouninstaller definitely has improved performance and I may keep it on that account.

Just think Paul: no more worries about malware and no more need to defrag your hard drive ( for starters )

Myk is right - as usual. I want to finish this convo and start The Jabberwock Chat Club in my diary. I'll start with paulh's last entry, which siddenly looks cryptic and very deep
