because Shea couldn't handle seeing my subject line about burning out and fading away. It got "That Song" into her head every time. Can't have that!!!
I have an appointment to meet with some high school marching band members tomorrow night. I'm going to interview them in the hopes of creating an article... I'm still maintaining the date in spite of the email I just read an hour ago:
"The editor's kind of flat on the marching band stuff right now. But, I saw your piece in the Met about the Comedy Class. That's a good Off Limits item. Would you be interested in putting together 300 or so words on it? Read a couple back issues of Westword to get the Off Limits tone (slight snarky and light hearted). It should be written for a general audience, rather than students who could take the class. Find out why CCD decided to offer. We only pay $25 for these, but it's a good way to recycle what you've already done."
ONLY PAY $25!??? ONLY $25!??? That's the most anyone's ever offered me to write anything. Well, no... not true. Let's revise.... that's the most anyone's offered to pay me for writing anything and I knew I could be pretty confident about getting it. Ok, maybe that's not really true, either.... because about a year ago... ...... I'm going in circles. All for Shea. Hee hee.

"Rock and roll will never die!"
but being rock 'n' roll artist is dangerous so you must be memoralable!

Rock and roll will be Killed by Death. And won't that be poetic justice
Sorry, couldn't miss that one...

If rock and roll will never die, it's because
it was never alive to begin with.
Dragonfly, what's this about writing a piece on the
comedy class for an audience of generals? I didn't
know generals had a sense of humor.

GENERAL MAYHEM: Attention, troops. Today we're going to
send Battalian 3 into enemy territory where it will
attack a mime school and an accordian factory. Be careful,
as there are rogue clowns in the area
with deadly cream pies to throw at you. Battalian 6
will be advancing to the south, where Sir Laughalot
has planted a large number of booby traps, Be especially
careful, as the daisies are phony, and will squirt you
in the eye.

I think it's been a good summer for them.
Lots of rain, so there were pools for the
larvae to spawn in. And lots of mosquitos
for them to eat.

Our next Natural World section at w**k is about insects, and I just spent quite some time looking at lovely pictures of dragonflies ... there are lots of different kinds!

A lot of them sparkle like jewels.
Their flying is so efficient and precise
that scientists have studied them for
aerodynamics.
Plus, they have survived for hundreds of
millions of years.
