h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

The memory of watching that film back in Sixth Form, a few of us in a murky classroom trying to work out what the hang the creators were thinking, will not quickly leave me. I've seen some other fairly strange interpretations -- there's a BBC television adaptation that has some wildly camp moments, for example -- but that film is so... surreal. And has a urinating cherub.

Anyway. Nice Entry, though the reference to 'denial of human rights' is a touch anachronistic for my tastes. (I don't go in for supply-your-own-meaning theories.)

I decided to add select bits that were useful to me in my GCSE exam, and ideas people studying the play in the future would find interesting.

We watched two versions of the Tempest in school: one was a 'sparkly' sort and the other an arty one. The arty one has Sycorax sitting stark naked with Caliban suckling at her breast. It was quite disgusting.

The BBC adaptation? Is that the one where Ariel was wearing nothing but a pair of really tight... oh, god.

...And painted gold? It's that one, yes.

And then he started to sing...

Like the great prophet Zarkwand, I apologise for my late arrival, but feel it necessary to record that Ariel in the BBC Tempest, as discussed above, was played by David Dixon who would a year later play Ford Prefect in the BBC TV series, the name of which I cannot now recall.
