H2G2 certainly is an interesting place, like no other place on the web. Where else can you find a place where people would prefer to be known as animals, insects and plants rather than as actual people?
Some, of course, take it further than others. Thus far, I've noticed:
- a penguin: http://www.h2g2.com/U55609
- a horse: http://www.h2g2.com/U47314
- a non-deciduous tree: http://www.h2g2.com/U31066
- another horse, but with wings: http://www.h2g2.com/U54754
- a weevil (me): http://www.h2g2.com/U26760
...and I haven't even looked around that much yet. What's surprising is that, despite what these people might tell you, they're otherwise perfectly normal people.
I can't wait 'til I'm having a conversation with a brick wall.

Well well. Aside from utterly outdoing me in the research department, you have essentially succeeded in driving my point home.
I'm so glad to be a weevil,
munching on corn pone, sleeping in bed,
not a single thought running through my head.
Oh, I'm so thrilled to be a weevil.
(Imagine happy weevil music and little musical notes dancing about the above lyrics).

How come this forum doesn't show up on your active forums? I only posted here last night. Just how prolific are you to send a ten-hour-old post right off the end of your list?

Total addict _ I think the last posts on my user page are down to about 2 hours ago - I prefer to work from the all posts stuff - and still I manage to miss stuff. I guess I posted to forum that have become very popular since I stopped posting to them - so they just keep refreshing the list ... makes me look dead busy and popular though...

It most definitely does make you look busy and popular. So, it's just a facade, then? Oooo, you sneak.
Did you like my happy weevil song? It could have been longer but there's not much else a weevil needs to sing about.

corn pone? translation needed... (related to cone porn?) But other than the transatlantic fine-tuning, I thought it was v. funny (well, actually I probably thought - does this man have nothing better to do with his time - is someone paying him to do this - why can't I have his job....)

From Webster's:
corn pone: A kind of bread made of the meal of maize (Indian corn), mixed with water or milk, etc., and baked. [U.S.]
When I get bored at work, I go insane, hence my spewing of inanities.

I'm strangely pleased to hear that the happy weevil song was written in you own time - do you perchance work in an office where a curious co-worker can see your screen and wonder why on earth you are writing songs about being a happy weevil...

I have a co-worker sitting next to me. He can't see my screen unless he gets up to leave his desk. He always manages to do this while I'm making a post. I think he's silently plotting to get me fired.

You should take him Brownies and win him round to the way of the weevil.
(strange how the conversation has come around to meet the conversation title...)
I think I am lucky not to have web access at work as I don't think I would get much stuff done. I get my 'web' fix by tinkering around with HTML when given half a chance - but a connection to the world at large - no way.

Yes, I'd certainly get more done if I didn't have internet access at work. But I use Linux and much of the documentation for various Linux parts, applications, libraries and modules are on the internet. So, if I didn't have an internet connection, I wouldn't get much done either.
Once I get going on something, though, the rest of the world (including the Web) becomes distant and irrelevant.
