I've just learned something about the phone company. When you call one of their customer service or technical service numbers, if you get a couple of rings followed by an answer by a real human being, that person will not be able to help you in any way. Don't even try to get help from them. It's futile.
They will, however, be able to transfer you to the department that _can_ help you. This is when you get place in the twenty-minute hold queue. This is good. It means that, if you can stick it out and prove to the phone company that you truly, desperately need and want their help, someone will eventually answer.
My ADSL is still down and likely to be down for most of today. Unless nobody shows up to fix it today, in which case it may be down 'til thursday.
I want my ADSL back, dammit.

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
