Sleepy Hollow...
Irving Washington - Gone Writing Posted Feb 1, 2000
I was trying to start off the secret code thingy from "From Russia With Love". "Can I borrow a match?" "I use a lighter" "Better still" "until they go wrong"

That's okay, it's a somewhat obscure refference...

Phryne- 'Best Suppurating Actress' Posted Feb 8, 2000
'Mandragora' is the Latinate name for the mandrake plant- the one that screams if it's pulled up, or so they say.
'Scry' is to tell the future in water, mirrors, and various types of balls.
'Midden' is a rubbish heap, a rat's nest or a cesspool.
I thought it was nice and mediaeval-sounding; I have several others which I use to sign letters and tell to strangers.

Wow. That's not just somewhat obscure, that's really obscure!

High praise indeed! More irrelevency- today's pointless Eng.Lang lecture was spent playing Picture Charades. My personal interpretation of Sleepy Hollow was applauded.
Incidentally, what did you all think of The Blair Witch Project?

I got a slight case of motion sickness. I'm not unhappy that I saw it, but I'm not planning on buying the bloody thing for hom veiwing. My next movie going experience will be Pitch Black. If anyone wants to know my thoughts on it, I'll probably put them here Monday. Or Saturday if its just that good!
Congrats on your interpretation, BTW!

Sleepy Hollows was excellent. Johnny Depp got the English accent
near enough perfect. Slight hint of Prine Charles but near enough.
The film had a fantastic gothic touch and the landscapes and
sets were a work of art. Shame about the endings of all Burton'f
films they are either really cheesy or unbelievably predictable.
Still great film!

I liked the Mexico ending to Mars Attacks, but that's just me. And the cheese worked in the Batman movies.

Batman was meant for cheese! Having read the comics, it fit just perfectly!
Everyone go to see Pitch Black! Its well worth the price of admission. Vin Deisel has great potential as a villain of epic proportions. Go, go, go! Then tell me what you think!

What's it about? Without giving the plot away...

A passenger ship crashes on a strange planet. The planet has three suns, so it is constantly daytime. This, naturally takes some getting used to. They find an old outpost which seems to have ben deserted 22 years ago and find out that every 22 years there's a major eclipse which seems to last for a very long time. They also find beasties that get hurt in the light. The eclipse is - of course - about to happen, so they have to find a way off the planet and away from the beasties before they get eaten. That's the jist. Check out http://www.pitch-black.com . Its worth the time.

And the movie lives up to the hype!

OK, so if you haven't seen them yet, go see Mission To Mars and Ninth Gate. They're both excellent films, each in its own way. Mission To Mars has the quiet understatedness that so many found refreshing in Contact and Ninth Gate shows that Roman Polanski has learned some new tricks while keeping his own distinctive style. Oh, and watch the Oscars Sunday, if for no other reason than to see Robin Williams sing Blame Canada from South Park: The Movie. It should prove interesting, to say the very least.

They got Robin Williams? That's hillarious! He's hillarious!
If you like kick 'em up style kung fu action, check out "Romeo Must Die" which is great, but the director needed to quit with the special effects. Some of them work, but most of them don't. There's at least one that doesn't seem to have any point whatsoever.
