A Twitter trend today was the word 'Fumigate'. This led me to remember the time Matty Van had to get rid of the smell of Old Hickory's cheese in the White House.
So you get this entry.

Great Entry!
I did have a couple of questions as I read through:
Why is 30 December 1801 in square brackets?
"This was, of course, a cheddar cheese." - why 'of course'?
I didn't know there was a Cheshire in Massachusetts to go with the county of Cheshire in the UK, and that is amusing that there is a cheese connection - Cheshire Cheese is a white, crumbly cheese, but I presume a cheddar cheese is a hard, yellowish cheese.
Would a link to your milk Entry A87923596 fit in somewhere?
"the cheesy comestible took up residence there – for the rest of Jefferson's time in office. It was a really big cheese." - brilliant phrasing!
That is amazing that the Jackson cheese was eaten quickly yet still managed to get into everything

The square brackets belong to the National Archives. I'm guessing the date wasn't there, but somewhere else on the document.
I changed the cheddar cheese sentence to explain that cheddar is the default cheese mode in North America. 'Cheddar' is basically what we mean when we say 'cheese' unless we put the word 'processed' in front of it. There are few cheese connoisseurs on this continent.
Linked.
Yeah. It must have been a very smelly cheese.

Ever since the change of administration, I have been wondering whether Trump ordered any smelly "gifts" for the new influx of White House residents. There are numerous stories online about kippers sewn into curtain linings, etc

Kippers in curtain linings? That's an ancient urban legend!
The latest controversy, however, was as to who fired the Chief Usher on the morning of the 20th, so that the Bidens didn't have anyone to open the White House door when they got there. Even snopes.com didn't know the answer to that one.

This is a little off-topic, but after the record cold in Texas I'd like to mention that Cheshire is not all that far from Chester, which was 40 degrees below zero in 1984, a record low for Massachusetts. The Texas panhandle registered 23 below zero F. one year. Dallas had a low of 2 below zero last week, a new record.
Key: Complain about this post
