This photo really catches my attention, Superfrenchie. Thanks! Is it lucky to catch the stork on location, or maybe it is used to people around?
Perhaps its because I've never ever seen a stork on a nest before, or even off a nest, so its a bit of a marvel really, but also its because of that expanse of blue sky behind it, I love that, don't know why, just do.
What is the structure that the stork is nesting on? Is it near to where you live?

It looks like a stilt that was used in the schlock film "Attack of the 5o-foot woman."
Now all we need to find is the other stilt, so another stork can nest on top of it.

I'm trying to remember a book I read as a child about storks. In the story, they put wagon wheels on the roofs, because it was too steep for the storks to nest there...
Aha. It was called 'The Wheel on the School', by Meindert DeJong. (Looked it up.) 1954. Maurice Sendak did the pictures, but I liked it, anyway.

Ah right, so there's a world here, or worlds within worlds, all concerning the nesting habits of the stork.
How very fascinating!

Hi Cactuscafe, Yes it's near where I live. The storks started coming here a few years ago, so the village's authorities put up this mast thing so they would have somewhere to nest that wasn't someone's house's chimney They must like it, because they've been coming back ever since.

Did you know that storks tried to keep omeo and Juliet apart? They were stork-crossed lovers.

Ah that's interesting, Superfrenchie. So the mast is sort of like a purpose built apartment for them!
It must have been quite an event when the storks were first seen in the area.
Thanks!!
