This is the second part of my Update of my Entry about Renaissance art ( A8249899 ). The other part you can find here: A87981015

I took all the bits about architecture from the original Entry and basically made something completely new.

Looking good. smiley - smiley

>>The clear structure of the Renaissance was replaced with incomprehensibly overpouring decorations.<<

This confused me. What do you mean by 'incomprehensibly overpouring decorations'? I'm afraid this will have to be said differently for a non-expert to understand. smiley - laugh

Do you mean that the simple lines of the buildings were obscured with a jumble of elaborate decorative details? smiley - bigeyes Could you give an example? That might help.

This is good - excellent to focus on the different aspects of architecture in more detail than could be covered in the Renaissance Art Entry smiley - ok

Can you say a bit more about what 'coffers' are in this context?

Amazing how Palladian architecture became so popular - in England I've visited a few 19th Century stately homes in that style smiley - ok

Excellent concluding paragraph smiley - ok Tricky to think of a header to go with it, though, I agree... I like the phrase "possibilities the Renaissance didn't even dare to think about" smiley - ok

Yes Dmitri, that's what I mean. They basically stuck loads of decorations on the buildings so the underlying clear lines are obscured and you don't know where to look.
I think this one is a quite impressive example:

You don't quite know where to look first, right? It's Renaissance with extra bits. Lots of them. Not all examples are that extreme.

I'll have to think of a footnote about coffere'd ceilings. smiley - ok

You are right, Sasha, Palladio stayed popular for a very long time.

smiley - snork I kind of enjoy that sort of thing. It makes me laugh.

So, could you replace 'incomprehensibly overpouring decorations' with an explanation, please, ma'am? smiley - smiley

Ok, I fixed that. smiley - smiley I copied the footnote about cofferes from the Entry about Roman architecture, I hope that's ok.
