All these pictures of snow make me positively envious! We don't seem to get snow any longer, just rain and strong winds.
FAREWELL TO TRADITIONAL WINTER
I don't mourn that shivering winter
when snow amassed so thick we cut
slabs of ice and piled them as ramparts,
cheered the milkman along the road.
But I remember waking to a magic land,
unexpected brightness of morning snow,
planting crunchy footsteps in virgin white,
watching ducks paddling in ice-free space,
children sliding headlong on toboggans.
Now pitiless storms come howling
across oceans, driving waves crashing
over sea front buildings. Rivers burst
their banks, carry cars like flotsam,
send people fleeing from houses,
needing rescuers in boats and helicopters.
What's happened to traditional winter?

No snow? Woe, oh woe! Here we go (or should I say, there goes the snow).

I have mixed feelings about the snow. As an incorrigible tree fan, I adore the sight of snow sitting on the top branches of the dwarf spruces along the entrance to my park.
On the other hand, I worried about big snowstorms this Winter, when my back was not as strong as I expected it to be.
I love the photo of the pine grove (if they really are pines; there might be some spruces or cedars in that grove...).
