Detective Inspector Mortimer carefully propped her Raleigh against the anti-ramraid barrier, removed her police issue bicycle clips and flashed her ID at the heavily armed guards at the doors.
The nearest rentathug nodded and the smoked glass doors hissed open, musak instantly irritated her ears.
D/S Browne trotted up with a smile as irritating as the pseudo Acker Bilk,.
"Morning Boss, another Andrex I'm afraid!" Susan Browne motioned to the toiletry aisle with another rather irritating smile.
"Bloody fourth this week! Twelve pack again?" Mortimer snarled through her rather bike-ride dishevelled hair. God, she hated the Climate Gestapo that had finally rid the Met of the Infernal combustion engine.
"Dozen, four ply" Sue blushed slightly as she checked her notes "Aloe moistened too."
Mortimer glanced down at the body on the orange and white lino. The guy was huge, even bigger than the door guards, and just as heavily armed. The Glock gripped in his right hand, useless against the frenzied attack.
*CCTV?"
"All on camera, bang to rights, perps are in the manager's office Boss, nasty bunch too!*
*Ain't they all Sergeant, ain't they all?* Mortimer sighed and headed through the Staff Only doors.
*Ladies" Mortimer nodded in greeting to the three octogenarians handcuffed around the staff coffee table. "Bit over the top this time?*
The old dear in the centre stood up to her full five foot two.
Well rehearsed by now she quoted.
" Officer, in line with Public Rationing Acts of 2021, Section 4 of the C9 Rights, my colleagues, Doris, Maureen and I have this day affected a Citizen's Execution!*
*Justification?* Another big sigh, Mortimer knew what was coming.
"Officer,the deceased was wantonly, without good reason, or Lawful Excuse, attempting to procure a sanitary toilet product in excess of Government Standard Issue, namely twelve rolls instead of the regulation four!"
Mortimer scribbled in her notebook.
"Uncuff the ladies please Sergeant, it's a lawful kill, the Met thanks you for your diligence ladies, have a good day!"
