The smile, the wave, self aware, shy, but warmed by decades of love.
Funny faces through the high street glass to make her laugh, distract her from her coffee and book.
So she smiles and waves, embarrassed by the camera she bought him years ago, but she looks through the lens with love.
She lowers her hand, pianist's fingers unconsciously touching her journal, assuring herself it hasn't flown away whilst she's been immortalised.
Empty coffee cups, espresso to kick-start the day”s wandering. Dark blue napkins on white plates show their natures.
He's knocked back the drink, keen to get on with the day, capture his life, see the new in familiar places, napkin unused and destined for the bin as a perfect unwanted triangle.
She's sipped her coffee, savouring the break, napkin unfolded and protecting the perfect whiteness, spoon carefully placed, some hope that this will spare the café staff from extra dishes. Considerate, kind, unnoticed acts.
She gathers belongings, noticing the gay chalk of the bookworm sign, coaxing those who already read to read some more.
Traffic noise as he stands in the doorway, keen to take love with him on the next adventure. Door wedged open, world impatient for them to begin.

You had me at "Empty coffee cups, espresso to kick-start the day”s wandering."
[Dmitri, you will notice that I put the final period where it belonged. Yes, I do learn from your Post articles about writing.]

And then you duplicated FWR's closed-quotation mark instead of an apostrophe, to give me another writing tip to write... Thank you.

Be merciful, Dmitri. I didn't notice that FWR used quotation marks instead of an apostrophe. I dealt with what I could see.

Well, it's like this: if a dog bites a man, it isn't news. If a man bites a dog, it is.

If FWR uses " instead of ', it's not news. Neither is it news if I fail to notice.
Situation normal, all Fouled up.

I may have forgotten to say how much I enjoyed your story, FWR. I enjoy everything you write, though I may not get the point right away.
