What do we want, another 'war on terror' on our hands?

The most responsible attitude for the British people to take would be to just move on and concentrate on healing the wounded and restoring order in London - not concentrating on who did the deed. The bombings have happened, and now we should concentrate on getting fully back on our feet.

Any sort of anger towards whoever caused the bombings will just result in an attitude of 'revenge'. And as we have seen from experience, that just doesn't work. I'm sorry to be making a comparison to 9/11 when this is the Britons' own tragedy to cope with, but it seems to me that it was the Americans' lust for revenge that caused them to invade Afghanistan after September 11, and it is that same wish to 'get back' that has caused us to be stuck in the Second Gulf War for almost four years now. This doesn't work, and wishes for revenge will only move the British a couple steps closer towards going down the same route.

As was said previously (by Psycorp and Ghandi), an eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind.

mine and GodBen's very reasonable and fair points have both been pulled. Why? I haven't the faintest idea. I think hootoo behaving like this only adds to the feeling of anxiety and terror. Sorry folks, obviously I can't talk about what we said or they will pull it again smiley - grr

I am very much hoping that the response to this terrorism will not involve more eye-for-an-eye retaliation, nor that the government will be enticed into an American style "war on terror". Terrorism is an act of crime, not war, and so these attacks in London should be dealt with accordingly.

Wattaray here........

I was almost in London yesterday morning and I would have been getting out of Russell Sq station at 09.00am too for a meeting.......I had to cancel due to other work commitments.

I feel damn lucky, yet vulnerable. These terrorists are fools if they think Goverment policy will be influenced by these acts.

Life goes on + bring it on

One thing I read once about the English: "The English have such phlegm" i.e. they're so phlegmatic. Good national characteristic for such times.

I was so impressed with the way the emergency services just sprang into action. Very efficient.

Also, the way the people in the tube stations behaved so calmly, leaving in an orderly manner. Most impressive.

There was a story on the news last night about an Australian chap who:

Had just left the bar in Bali when it was bombed (not injured)

Was travelling on the London tube when his train was bombed (not injured)

Left the tube station, walked down the street, turned the corner and saw a bus exploding (not injured).

Is that Johnny on the Spot or what???

The best way to annoy terrorists is to keep on living your lives normally and maintain really excellent emergency services, as insurance.

Seems the best way to annoy terrorists it to be that Australian bloke.

There was an American sailor who had that kind of luck during Wrld War II. When the third ship he was on was torpedoed and sank he could be heard yelling, "Now what?" Survived, though.

I've heard a rumour that a mosque in Leeds has been firebombed.

Looks like there are some people out there cretinous enough to give the Bombers what they want!

Was talking to a friend today about the bombings and that chap who's walked away from 3 bombs. We decided that the security services could save a lot of money and time by simply following him around unobtrusively and looking out for suspicious activity.

The price u pay for democracy, is exactly this sort of tragedy. You cannot stop evil people from coming over to London, or any other UK city for a day trip, and u certainly can't search everyone for a bomb.

Aye. And I would rather have the democracy.

While that may seem rather callous to most people, it is a price to be paid.

It is to be paid because we're all human, all in this together. That is the true tradegy.
