Hi Fluffy - It is confusing, isn't it? But the people on the Interim Committee are working night and day - literally - to try and get information to everybody here.
Here is a short cut to the FAQ's page. Maybe something there will help you understand a bit more about the move and the future.

The technical volunteers are also working their socks off on an amazing scheme to ensure we have an easy time when we move the whole site away from the BBC. They are brilliant

There'll be an update tomorrow (was pencilled in for today, but people have Real Lives, who knew?)
The two most important places are: U14914070 and A85834173.

So, are we to assume from thread titles like this that we're keeping the new-style H2G2 name, rather than the old lower-case h2g2?
Sorry for bringing up such trivialities...

It's a return to our roots - see the section "Using Capital Letters" in A41950046.
Actually, I don't mind one way or the other.

(I ended up using H2G2 for simplicity and consistency in the documentation I wrote for the bid, but I prefer the look of h2g2. It's just that you do have to put H2G2 at the start of a sentence, so I'd end up with things like...
"H2G2's researchers prefer writing for h2g2 instead of Wikipedia because ...."
... which just looks messy.

I use h2g2 a lot in the middle of sentences, it's just quicker to type.

You can use the lower case at the start of a sentence if it's a brand name.
h2g2 is a brand name, I prefer it lowercase too

Good point, Pastey.
*sudden thought* - can we do a Case Sensitive Find and Replace throughout the whole database and make a nonsense of this whole conversation?

I do actually have somewhere, on an old backup disc, the proper h2g2 logo style guidelines from when we set up the Post.
I'm currently sat here with glorious sunlight shining through the window, going through my backups

H2g2 works at the start of a sentence doesn't it?

But it looks horrible! Like that awful trend of mixing capitals and lower case in the middle of words a few years ago.

The upper case version, is, IMO, vulgar... excellent... another rift in the community.... first the alabaster user's split into the alabasters and the alabasterans, sub-fractions of the initial sect, and now its the turn of the capitalletterights
Key: Complain about this post
