Everybody knows their own height. Especially if you have been in the services (as you are rigorously measured)and unlike weight, it never fluctuates.
It's just that "Jack" stated in convo to you on Jun 17th that he was 6'1" tall. On 12th May he'd stated to Mrs Slartibartfast that he was 6'2".
He's either shrinking, or he was making up a casual lie about his height. Probably to appear more impressive.
This is a minor fib, but just proves that he lies off the cuff, because everyone knows how tall they are. Everyone.

Ah, what the heck. Add an inch or two. Obviously the taller you are, the more physically impressive you will be to the females. It helps when you are projecting an image to the gullibel ones, I guess.
