Right you both are. A poke is a sack.
The 'pig in a poke' thing was an old con job, Prof - somebody would put a cat in a sack, and pass it off as a piglet. Of course, nobody usually paid that much for a kitty.
The Germans call it 'Katze im Sack kaufen' - to buy a cat in a sack.
In the US, you can make a mp of where people say 'sack' or 'bag'. But 'poke' is just rural Southern. In Pittsburgh, it's always 'bag'.
Sort of like the 'soda/pop' demarcation.
