William Blake. 1757–1827
The Tiger
TIGER, tiger, burning bright
In the forests of the night,
What immortal hand or eye
Could frame thy fearful symmetry?
In what distant deeps or skies
Burnt the fire of thine eyes?
On what wings dare he aspire?
What the hand dare seize the fire?
And what shoulder and what art
Could twist the sinews of thy heart?
And when thy heart began to beat,
What dread hand and what dread feet?
What the hammer? what the chain?
In what furnace was thy brain?
What the anvil? What dread grasp
Dare its deadly terrors clasp?
When the stars threw down their spears,
And water'd heaven with their tears,
Did He smile His work to see?
Did He who made the lamb make thee?
Tiger, tiger, burning bright
In the forests of the night,
What immortal hand or eye
Dare frame thy fearful symmetry?

Ode to Spot
By Lt Commander Data
I find myself intrigued, by your subvocal oscillations,
a singular development of cat communications,
that obviates your basic hedonistic predilection
for a rhythmic stroking of your fur,
to demostrate affection.
A tail is quite essential, for your acrobatic talents.
You would not be so agile,
if you lacked it's counterbalance,
and when not being utilized to aid in locomotion,
it often serves to illustrate,
the state of your emotion.
Oh Spot, the complex levels of behavior you display,
connote a fairly well developed cognitive array,
and though you are not sentient, Spot,
and do not comprehend,
I nonetheless consider you,
a true, and valued, friend.

You could say that. But Data's poem wasn't really intended to be a work of art in its own right. It is part of a bigger work, which is the script of the TNG episode in question. You are allowed quote small parts of a work for illustrative purpose, and that's what you've done here.

Howl with pride and confidence for you are yourself Let your spirit run free and soar to the heavens May you never become discouraged from life's problems and tight situations For you must stand and face your destiny without fear, but with courage in your heart And you must remember and be ready for tomorrow is another day.
