Dross pot is such a fabulous name for this phenomenon. In our household, it has always been known as "The Bowl of Crap" (and for dramatic effect, we always roll the 'R'). We also manage to fit heaps more stuff into it - fishing lures (and undoubtedly hooks, to teach prying fingers a lesson), photo negatives, takeaway menus, bottles of nailpolish, tired fridge magnets who require a rest . . . basically, it's a black hole in there, sucking the oddest things out of our universe, and holding onto them forever. Like some sort of ultradomestic bower bird. Or something.
