A Conversation for Talking Point: Classic TV Revivals
The (all too brief) return of Superstars

Yesterday the BBC announced that they will not be making a third series of the recently revived superstars. I'm disappointed - I enjoyed the series that finished a few weeks ago (and I particularly enjoyed the very lovely Alain Baxter winning it)
From what I read yesterday (mainly on teletext) - the beeb were declining to give any reason for this decision.

I missed it because I was always out when it was on ,I do like it though
I find it very strange that they aren't going to make another series.
May be todays superstars are to vain to take part in a program that might knock there egos.

It's more a case of professionalism. In general the people who competed have all retired, or take part in sports where they don't make enough money year round.
When the original show was on, you had people like James Hunt, Kevin Keegan, Brian Jacks and Brian Hooper competing. Today athletes are professional, and motor racing drivers/footballers will probably have it written in their contracts that they can't do anything dangerous. Imagine what Real Madrid would have to say if David Beckham turned up with the skin hanging off his back, after an accident like Keegan had on the bikes.
