superlatives

This is a warning from the language administration and maintenance envoy:
Please note that there is a national shortage of superlatives (longer, higher faster) so please use the sparingly. "Faster" is in particular demand at this time of year so please try not to use unless there is an emergency. If your occupation requires a large number of superlatives then it is possible to apply for a licence from LAME who will allot you a quota. Frequent use of superlatives without a licence is punishable with stoning, being forced to carry an extremely large watermelon round the M25 twice, or we will be really nasty to you. The shortage is due to a bad oyster crop in 1982, don't diss it.

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
