I know it needs work. Tell me where please.

The Central US Researchers page A595163 will list plenty of other cities that have already been done. You can see how others have handled this kind of entry.
A couple of named pages you might want to look at
Writing-GuideML and <./>Edited-Guide-Guidelines</.>

I did take a look at some of the other geographical entries of a similar nature, and I think this one generally follows a similar format.
I've also started making it over in GuideML.

Does anyone have any comments on the actual content of the article or its style?

Good content, a great start, but the style needs work. First things first, lose the first person tense. Guide articles are written in third person.
But it looks like somwhere pretty cool to visit!

Rather than just mention teams like the rampage, you might give a little more detail about them. And Rather than just mention President Gerald Ford perhaps a hyperlink for more info would be nice. As to style When I did my first edited entry I used the
tag and was told they would rather you use the nested P (one at the start and one at the end example I like eating at
Burger King .

here is one I picked up off google. In Guide ML this would actually go to this page.
Gerald R.Ford

Also that first paragraph would look better split after the part about Detroit. Starting a new Paragraph We used to pride ourselves etc. It's a good article. I wish you much success with it.

Thanks. I'll need that good luck.
A little of this advice is strange to me.
Why is the standard third person rather than first? And why does it matter if I use tag or the paragraph tags?
A3670210 - Grand Rapids, MI, USA
shagbark Posted Mar 9, 2005
As I recall and some others may correct me on this the br tag is independent of the frame and so using brunel or goo you might get different results where the P tag is more consistant.
As to third person I think it is a tone h2g2 is trying to set - one of looking at the city objectively rather than being part of it.

An example of person would be "The city of Grand Rapids used to pride itself" rather than we used to pride ourselves. Also the possesive of it
its does not use an apostrophe.

I think I have it written consistently in the third person, but I feel the rule is rather limiting.
I was hoping that the Guide would be something like gonzo journalism without the intoxication (in most cases).
Seperating the observer from the observed jsut doesn't sit right with me.
Sorry for rambling.

the third paragraph is still first person. You might try this-
"this city is closer to Michigan's west coast than any other so its residents consider themselves to be in West Michigan."
you note I replaced "we" with its residents. Once you get this article to where you think it is close to being finished you could remove it from writers workshop and submit it to peer review.
They do the same kind of thing there that I'm doing but at the end it is recommended by a scout, edited by a sub editor and ends up as an edited article. If you have ever noticed the advanced search button.
it offers seach in three categories Edited, Recommended, and regular Guide Entries. The first two of these are only for articles that have gone through Peer Review.

I have an article in Peer review myself A3636245 and one of the peers is pointing out each puntuation and Capitalization error. No telling when the scouts will decide it is ready to be recommended.

this is as good an article as some in the Edited guide although there are still first person references as noted in a previous post.

Forgive me for being thick, but how does one submit an entry for peer review? I think this article's about ready for it, but I can't figure out how.
