We were advised by our vet to use basmati rice as a mixer with meat for our two dogs, Henry and his now departed mother, Kit. They would go nutty for the stuff and used to sit and watch the bowl go round in the microwave for the 15 minutes or so that it took to cook. It got to the point that we were buying twenty kilo bags from the wholesalers to feed their addiction to the stuff. We also had to find code words for it when they started to recognise first the word 'rice' and then the word 'basmati'. Bless the little tykes!

I have heard that it is good to give dogs brown rice - but basmati is very classy for dogs.....

When our dog was sick, the vet recommended a mixture of boiled white rice, egg, and glucose from a tube as his food three times a day until he was back on his feet. After two days, the sick dog wouldn't eat it any more but our other dog would beg for it.
