A Conversation for Talking Point: 2011

You can call me TC

It seems to me that very few people actually come here to the Talking Points. I admit I don't start at the front page much, either, which is the only way I know of finding the talking points. Are you thinking of advertising this feature a bit more in the new version, Eds, or are you satisfied with the feedback as it is?

And while I've got your attention, I've always wondered where the ideas come from. Do you dream them up week by week or have you got a lovely long list to draw on?

Is there a Talking Point Archive?

Hi TC. Thanks for your questions. Yes, we have an archive of previous Talking Points here: A568721

As to your other post, well, since you ask, we will be looking at retiring the Talking Point feature when the redesign comes. We'll be using our h2g2 Announcements page (to be renamed 'From the Editors') to talk to the community more regularly, and more informally.

And the ideas? We draw them from our addled brains. Sometimes - like this one A74604215 and this one A65476542 - ideas have come from us simply staring out of the office window.

But we hope people have enjoyed them over the years. We've enjoyed writing them, and have certainly enjoyed reading all the replies. smiley - ok

Sorry H2G2 Editors, I'm new and it looks like I'm too late? The Front page is presenting me with comments from 2008 at the earliest!

I'm talking to an office in a boarded up building in Bristol aren't I?

Hi Dire Tribe (smiley - cool name!)

This site's been going strong since 1999 and you will find comments much earlier than 2008 if that's what you're looking for.

Have fun reading!

And you're not too late at all. We are about to enter a new era, and at the moment most people are very busy discussing this.

An Ace will come to your personal space soon and give you some tips, but the main place to look for if you want some interesting conversations is Ask the Community, or Ask H2G2 as it's now known.

Hello, I'm new here. I've just discovered this site. Can you tell me about it. I've send a message before a few hours here, but no one reply. It seems it was posted a wrong way. I am always posting to " ask A question board ". When I discovered it from Raneem's old posts.smiley - smiley

Hi mmh5y. We're very pleased to welcome you to the site. H2G2 is undergoing some changes at the moment, we're in the process of redesigning the site, and a live version of the new site is here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2 (which may have been the route by which you came to us).

H2G2 is a user-generated site, and features articles written and collaborated on by members of the community on a range of subjects. Please visit our new About page at http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/help/ for more information and see http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/help/contribute/ for details on how to get involved.

Nice to have you with us. smiley - ok
