I haven't done extensive research but they all seem to consist of four letters e.. WXYZ, KLMN ...
Whereas in Britain we come up with innovative names like Radio 1, Radio 2, Radio 3, Radio 4, Radio 5 ... Heart FM, Coast FM, Orchard FM, 210 FM, Gemini FM, CAT FM ...

Basically call signs given out by the government when a radio station is licenced...haven't read anymore...
