why does my budgie behave like this?!

Hello,

I'd be very grateful if anyone can help me with this.
I bought a male budgie aged 14 weeks, he's almost 9 months old now. He's very tame, spends all day out of his cage, and has the freedom of the whole ground floor of the house. He's always been very gentle but over the last couple of weeks sits on my hand quite happily but then sinks his beak into my finger and bites hard. It really hurts and has almost drawn blood a couple of times.
Can anyone tell me why he does this and what I can do to stop it please?
Julibird.

He's evil. All budgies are evil, as are most birds.

Effers;England.

Budgerigars are birds that always live in flocks. I believe that's why some people have mirrors hanging in the cage. I've never owned one...but if I did I'd never have one on its own...just letting it fly around all alone outside the cage doesn't cut it. I don't blame him for biting you, he's probably lonely as hell. Get another one.

Maybe he thinks you are a branch and is trying to clean his beak?

I seem to remember that budgies need cuttlefish in their cage for beak 'care'. My imagination may be going haywire but I think it's to stop the beak growing too long...

Magwitch - My name is Mags and I am funky.

He needs something to chew. As already suggested, get him some cuttlefish and also an iodine block.

Also, does he have a mirror and a swing in his cage?
