Several perfectly amazing things happened to me, so I'd like to (of course) share them.
1. My friends and I decided to do a gift exchange wherein each person picked the name of someone else out of a hat. One of my friends, who picked me, put together this lovely basket of things which included a copy of 1066 And All That, which I've wanted for a while. I was impressed that she'd known I wanted the book, but she said she'd just had it lying around her house!
2. Grades: I have a 4.4 GPA. I like weighted grades!!! We also got back exam results from a test called the PSAT - it's what you take prior to the SAT. As I'm a sophomore/tenth grader, the scores don't matter now - it's next year when you can be eligible for prestigious scholarship awards. But I got a 204, which is eleven points away from the score you need in California to be a semifinalist for the scholarships. I'm more proud, though, that I scored in the 99th percentile in the reading and writing sections (not to brag or anything; I apologise if it sounds like I am).
3. I won an h2g2 t-shirt!!!!
Just in case I haven't made it clear enough (I'm about to write the same thing on my PS and in my name) I'll be gone, making the obligatory two-week visit to the Canadian family, from tomorrow (17 December) until 2 January (2006!). I might be able to check my email a couple times in that period, but won't be online much. So a big thank-you to Shazz and the team for making sure I don't have to worry about - and I'm sorry that I won't be able to pursue my other duties (like finishing my Julio-Claudians!) as usual.
Happy holidays and happy new year, everyone!

Usually it's by participating in something.
I got both my tshirt and mug by people supposing I was as witty as I think I am in Photo Caption Contests in the Post.

I got my first T-shirt, mug and mouse mat for a Caption Competition, my second mug and mouse mat for coming second in a quiz at a h2g2 Meet, and my second T-shirt for being a helpful guy around the Edited Guide. I can't remember where I got the third mouse mat.

Thanks everyone for your good wishes! I just got back yesterday and am now reading the backlog and getting back in step with .
Elentari, I got the t-shirt for my suggestions in the Your h2g2 Talking Point, though I'll be damned if I can remember what I suggested. I got it today and it looks very pretty. It's blue and in white there's the logo, below which it says 'h2g2' and the URL. I shall wear it to school tomorrow.
