All those who give vaguely the correct answer will have their name printed in the next published H2IQ. If you arrived here without knowing the question it can be found by clicking the above 'H2IQ Revisited' link.

Quite - perhaps it is part of The Wheel of Time which used to be great until the author decided to spin it out to an interminable length purely for economic reasons. smiley - winkeye

Caractacus

But there's no . (like the blunt pencil)

pronounced vÄ"liks - referring to Type genus of the Volicaceae; minute pale green flagellates occurring in tiny spherical colonies; minute flagella rotate the colony about an axis.

Caractacus (this is *almost* true, just a little corrupted)

I decided that VOLIX must be a foreign language. But rather than be stupid and travel to every country in the world and ask what it means, I went to the library and looked up all the countries in the world which use those letters. I then proceeded to travel to all THOSE countries (you'd be suprised how many there are) and ask the people in those countries what it meant.

Unfortunatly, my continued traveling across countries so much in one day raised suspicion, and they've detained me because they think I may be a terrorist. smiley - erm

Maybe considering the "L" part of VOLume is too easy. What about VOlume 59 with 59 in Roman numerals.

Pronounced 'Vollicks' to rhyme with a word for testicles.
It's the book about the band!

Volix are a striving punk band, and are trying to write enough songs for an album in the future. Their songs are kind of mediocre.....but they have only been playing for roughly six months as a band.
The quality of the tunes is pretty bad, as they had to record them onto a computer through a pair of earphones.
The lyrics of their most successful track are in true punk style - unfortunately their lead singer was absent at the recording session, which accounts for its acceptability.

The book, which mainly consists of lists of gigs where they hope to play and really smiley - bleepsmiley - bleep swear words when their aspirations come to nought, is a must for those who need something that will be a permanent prop to an unstable ladder or wobbly table.

(And if you don't believe me - go google!)smiley - biggrin

I actually decided that the book was upside-down, and that it was actually written by Xilon, that famous Bulgarian author.

No Volix in Asterix, I don't think (and trust me, I've read them all) smiley - smiley

I think it's pronounced vah-licks and it sounds like the name of some sort of drug that people don't tend to hear about, though I'm also willing to go with the suggestion that it's vol. 9 in Roman numerals.
