A brief history of men dressing up as women to break out of prison

I dozed off after dinner, and dreamed I was writing an entry called that. smiley - laugh I wonder if there's any mileage in it.

Who have we got? Ronnie Kasrils in South Africa. De Valera was sprung from Lincoln prison. I'm sure he made a very tall, angular and striking woman indeed. smiley - bigeyes

They were the only two in the dream. I'm sure it's a branch of history that's much neglected. There might even be a PhD in it. Thesis title: "Fur Coats, Fake Boobs And The Logistics of Liberation".

Add the French officer who tried to escape from Oflag IV-C, aka Colditz, disguised as a woman:

He almost got away with it. Unfortunately, 'her' wristwatch fell off, and somebody was gallant...smiley - whistle

Oh, here's an American who escaped from a Mesican prison in drag:

I thought it was interesting that the only other escapee was Pancho Villa - who didn't bother to put on a costume or shave his moustache, I imagine...

Either I heard something about this on the radio a couple of years ago, or there's already an entry in PR. Either way, the topic seemed familiar to me.

Hmm. A search for "prison" in the Guide doesn't seem to bring up anything like it.

Och, that's as near as makes no difference. That saves me having to write it. smiley - laugh

I might write the story of De Valera's escape anyway some time, purely because it's an entertaining yarn.

And I was pretty close with my "couple of years ago".

I re-read the entry after I'd got over the "men feeling in women's clothing" typo!
