I've got lead in my pencil and ink in my pen!
KB Started conversation Apr 30, 2013
So I better do something about it.
I think it's entry time.
I've just worked out that my ratio of entries to years of Researchership is a rather listless 1.5 to 1. On the plus side, this means that if I get one into the Guide by the end of May, I'm on target to beat the average this year! If I can emulate that massive achievement in the latter half of 2013 too, that is.

Does that mean we can look forward to another creepy crittur? Some people's writing is rare but memorable.

Maybe after! I do love a good strange creature or two!
But first a historical tale of subterfuge and derring-do, involving sneaking around the world on whaling ships.

I once had an ambition to have an average of one entry per year of researchership. I haven't quite managed that yet, but it is edging a bit closer. Go us!

I go through phases where inspiration seems to come, on 'what' to write, and sometimes, if I'm lucky it coincides with my having the 'desire' to write them... I get stumped though if I don't finish them quick enough, as I have a very short

We should form some kind of writing partnership to egg each other on, Sol - it's no use us competing with the Bluebottles and Galaxy Babes of this world!
I know what you mean, Leggsy. I've come to recognise that when I get a good idea, and I'm enthusiastic about it, I need to strike while the iron is hot or it will never get done. There are some that have just simmered so long I've lost all desire to think about them.

Exactly... I recall some time before Chrimblemass lookin g at some old, unfinished entrys I'd done, years and years back... thinking I might use em to quickly get some more entrys written up and actually* complete... I guess I must have known a bit* about the subject areas at the time, or had some vague interest in it... but clearly not any more I must try get my writing head on, and get my lactobascillus entry finally through PR, so I can bash on with the next batch of ones that have been churning about in my toes for a while... a couple gaps I noticed we didn't have anythign on, on subject areas I know basically nothign about; but which will be good to research and write on, I think, plus a couple others I useually find, in the process of writing an entry, I end up finding other ones to write; lactobascilus for example, was because I was sure* there was an entry on it, and I searched for it, so I could link to the entry from I think the Zen baguette entry, or some other entry on bread I was doing, and on not finding 'lactobascillus as an entry, EG or otherwise, thought I might as well write it... again my own in my head knowledge of them, from my studies was a little slimb, but there are books, and an internet for information I need to find some more 'weird' topics to write though... they're oftne more fun to do ... a bit like the 'zen' in my baguette entry

I do like a good 2legs entry, I must admit. There's a style of humour in them that goes well in the guide, but that not everybody could carry off.

thanks... I do try... well, rather I don't, but can't help but do ... err... if that makes sense... not that it should make sense... I guess
The mushy pea and pie entry must be a one for me to get round to finishing asides anything I finally* managed to hunt down a bag of marrofat peas, and thus far have failed to do anythign with them that's a joint effort though Ooo! just htought of another entry idea.... unless we've already got one on it... Candiru and chinchillas were favs of mine I wrote... again both quite random, and chinchillas only so I could get the greg the chinchilla pic
I think the willy fish entry was inspired by.... whoever it was who did the face mite one... I may have inadvertantly just inspired someone on twitter, to write an entry on 'keyboard licking'. err. naa I can't begin to try and explain that one I shoudl probably write an entry on 'how to cope and deal with plummers' or something and I oughta finish a couple of ones on guitars I started and I don't think finished or the one... maybe dream up more 'zen' recipies... but that might be stretching what worked for one entry too far

I just had a count... I've done 13 entrys that are now in the EG, solo entrys, that is, plus some colaberation entrys and one I think was just me and Minimouse, and, of them, five were done last year, (though two only made it into the guide this year), plus the one still in PR ... see if I can make that twenty solo entrys, or twenty five, by the end of 2013/start of 2014 hmmm.... mushy peas, Antinous, lactobasillus, Hmmm.... I'll have to think of a few other ones to write
*note to self, ideas must be saine, safe and consentual, and within houserules*

I'm at that part of the research process where you find out all sorts of interesting snippets you didn't know before. I like this bit.
And I've also discovered that the Irish president made a lengthy speech last October about one of the cast in the story I'm telling. Good for him - he's a bit of a poet, so maybe I can liberate a nice quote from the speech to use in the entry.

I promised myself I would write six entries this year - that's one every two months. So far I am now overdue with March/April's entry, but because I am now at the bit that I have to do some cooking to work out quantities.
Anyway, inspired by this thread I have actually made one of the dishes I needed to make. Unfortunately I do have a few more to go...
But on the upside my husband is all gung ho about the entry on his special area of interest, so you never know, I may squeak in by the end of the year.

Good luck!
At the start of the year I'd toyed with doing one per month, but somehow it's May already! I have already got this current one all plotted out in my head, and just need to transcribe it out, so I'm hopeful I'll get it in PR by the weekend.

I'm about halfway to PR now I'd guess. Must not allow this one to become yet another dejected half-written entry on a wee yellow* sheet of paper on the comic shelf! Must get it finished by May Day! That's the current goal.
*That's "a wee yellow sheet", not "wee-yellow sheet".

Well, that deadline went "whoosh!"
I must make a big push today. I've done nothing with it for a week, and I need to get it done cos it's holding back another one I want to get tore into...

I have huge guilt trips about not writing. I think I have about half a dozen in either my mind, or partly begun on notepad. Also, I *really really* enjoy helping to get other people's work into the Guide. That is totally satisfying. And after that my time and energy to write anything myself has dissipated.
One I keep trying to do something with is the Mushy Peas Entry. We've even got a packet ready to photograph while I prepare the things... Sorry 2legs.
But, there is something to be said about quality over quantity, and I'm looking forward to another of KBs.

Helping to polish entries in PR is every bit as important though, Lanza. I think you'd be better in that line than me. While I try to chip in with constructive comments, I tend not to be so good at guiding entries right the whole way through PR the way you do. Unless it's about something I'm really interested in.
Nowt wrong with playing to your strengths!

Argh. Now I'm juggling two Entries. I have to get at least one of them finished this week.
