Ahhh, Saturday. Not much of a lie in as my body clock insists on being alert not long after my usual getting-up time in the week. Still it means we get round the supermarkets nice and early before they get busy and bad for my blood-pressure
Lazy day, nothing much planned until this evening, when we're off to see the Thor sequel at the cinema, have a nice meal out, and probably catch the tail end of the Diwali day celebrations and some early bonfire night fireworks no doubt. The nice thing with Leicester is we get so many of the festivals throughout the year there's always something to look forward to, and it's said that the Diwali celebrations here are some of the biggest outside of India. The big city bonfire night/fireworks celebration is tomorrow, we probably won't go (I'm not a huge fan of standing around in the cold these days but watch from indoors from afar.
I've taken the weekend off from singing with the choir - it's about to hit the Advent/Christmas preparations, so it'll be nice to spend some time with J, and not worry about practicing or getting to the next service.

We used to go to the local Firework display here but sadly hubby can no longer stand for more than 5 mins at a time so we're giving it a miss this year

Peanut,
thank-you. I like herons too, they're so graceful, both in flight and the delicate way they wade.

Hi Solnushka and hellboundforjoy, glad to have you on board too
Diwali is the festival of lights for Hindus (and is also big for Sikhs and Jains) see A803495 and the start of their new year - the kick-off was a couple of weeks ago when they had the big switch on of lights along the Golden Mile, part of the Belgrave Road along with dancing and fireworks, lots of sweets and food and all sorts of other things, probably the best link I can find to show what it was like is this one:

Diwali day is actually today (3rd) this year, I got confused it's a popular event in the city, and not just with the Asian community.
