A Conversation for How to Handle Awkward Questions
Invitations

I've found that the best way to avoid unwanted invitations is just to make up some plausible proir engagement (thus avoiding the event) and to show as little enthusiasm as is politely possible about the invite (thus reducing the chance of it coming up again)
Not foolproof, and certainly not honest, but I think it gets the job done while stepping on feelings as little as possible.

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
