An entry about the German island of Helgoland - what is it, what to do, how to behave.

Hi travelhun,
This is a great start. I see that you wrote some entries a few years back. The Guide has undergone some changes and there are a set of guidelines at <./>writing-guidelines</.>
The reference to Altarian dollars will need to be removed and also your name at the bottom too.
It would benefit from headers and subheaders but you would have to use the sites mark up language (info at <./>GuideML-clinic</.> to do that. If you are not used to it then don't worry too much just at the moment.
This island has a great history and would make a very interesting Guide Entry.

Thanks for writing this entry; it's about one of my favourite obscure places.
A couple of comments:
First, the English spelling of the name of the territory is 'Heligoland'.
Second - Heligoland was part of Denmark until 1807, when Britain seized it.
Third - Bismark was so keen to swap Zanzibar and a lot of African mainland territory for Heligoland because of the Kiel Canal; Heligoland was seen as a part of the Canal's defences.
Last: 'doner kebap' ---> 'doner kebab'
Ivan.

Hi, I love islands so this sounds like a really intresting place to go to.
I think that perhaps accusing the islanders of cheating is not entirely polite - and may well offend of them if they come across it on a BBC website!

Hello Mort,
I have concurred to your demands and changed the entry. Headers etc. I will probably add at a later date as soon as I have found the time to get my head wrapped 'round GuindeML. Say... 2007?

Hey Z!
Well, they may be offended. But then, when they attampted to shortchange me by €10 twice, in the same shop, withing 48 hours, and added 25% to a price in another shop, and did similar things to my mates in the other shops as well, then I was rather less than overcome with joy, too.
I would think it impolite not to warn people: Look what you and they are doing, and compare the prices.

Hello Ivan,
thanks for the comments. I have now worked some details into the article, but left out the historical bit, lest it become rather too long.

Thanks Travelhun.
The only one of my suggestions that I really think *must* be made is the spelling of 'Heligoland'.
Ivan.

It's true, the Writing-Guidelines do say that British English and spellings should be used in the Edited Guide - the entry on Venice is called Venice rather than Venezia, for example. But if Helgoland is the German spelling, you should mention this as a footnote the first time you use the word in the main body of the entry.
I'll pop back and have an in-depth look at the entry as soon as I can and see if there's anything else I can suggest.
My first suggestion is to include a little more description of Heligoland's geographical location in the title. I'm not quite sure if 'Heligoland, Germany' is quite right - maybe a second qualifying factor which I can't quite put my finger on - 'Heligoland, ?, Germany'? I bet you can think of something far better than me

This is a nice Entry. Reminded me of the good-old-times h2g2.
It needs an overhaul. I just hope the author is still around.

Yes, I wondered about Dune, how come such a rocky island as Helgoland has such a flat satelite of sand like Dune. So I gather it used to be Helgoland's beach?
What you could also mention is that it is possible to hop from one island to the next. From Helgoland, for instance you can take the ferry to Sylt and from Sylt to next, Danish, island in the North Sea.
