Now 2of3 - What is Quince?

It is not a citrus fruit, but of the apple and pear family - a sort of basic apple/pear. About the size of a cooking apple, but a knobbly pear shape. It ripens from green to a good yellow colour and the flesh is hard, slightly granular and very pale pinky-beige. It has pips like an apple or pear.
It is usually cooked rather than eaten raw as it is quite astringent
'Cydonia oblonga' is the latin name.

I now have about 10 bushes growing alongside a stream. The blossom is very pretty in spring.
