Florida Driving

The Orlando area chooses to welcome its many foreign visitors with a completely baffling road system --- I know it's completely baffling as I've lived here nine years and I still can't figure it out. Most main roads are known by numbers....eerily similiar numbers.....436, 426, 192, 92, 17-92. Words would seem to be easier, but our city planners (sic) don't know many words. That's why there are streets called McGuire, McCoy, & Sand Lake at each end of town. Plus one called Vineland that's aptly named, as it's everywhere, and runs parallel in places to a road called Apopka-Vineland....then, of course, every third street involves the word Orange.

Just to really upset visitors, there are randomly placed signs directing the visitor to the airport via the most obscure routes, guarentted to make you miss your flight unless, of course, you set out three days in advance. Does the world of good for additional hotel revenue.

The main drag through tourist heaven, Kissimmee, changes name every few miles....192, Irlo Bronson, 13th St...it's all the same road, but somehow worthy of a plethora of names.....

Good luck.....
