I liked it,

Zaphod was a bit too annoying at points, but otherwise pretty good. Some effects were great.

one question... the POV gun (went with a bunch of femanists, much cheering). I was having a conversation with somebody, they were saying it was in the books. But I can't remember it being in there.

Is it from the books ?

I don't remember it in the books either, but then I haven't read them for a long while.

There is only one thing worse than being Gosho, and that is not being Gosho

Definitely not in the books - I finished reading them a week or two back. I wonder if it was na invention of DNA, like Humma Kavula, or not, and I wonder if it was put in there with the intention of being used in the sequel that we all know is to come?

The Duke of Dunstable

The POV gun was never in the books. Douglas invented it for the movie alone, as he did Humma Kavula and a whole range of stuff. smiley - cheers

Hmm... now I'm left wondering just how much of Douglas' screenplay they used for this film, and if there's any of his material left over for the sequel(s), or whether those will have to be written by someone else.

I'm intrigued smiley - tongueout

I'm not really here

I definitely remember that thing in the book about the point of view - whether it was a gun or not I don't remember, but I do remember the 'you just don't get it do you'.

I think you might be remembering the conversation we had with Robbie two years ago, Mina. Remember when we went for lunch with him that time and he told us about the POV gun being one of Douglas's new inventions for the film? The only thing close to a point of view reference in the books is a throwaway line about Random: 'It can be very dangerous to see things from somebody else's point of view without the proper training.'

It looks likely the second film with get the go-ahead now that it's the number one flick in American cinemas (hurrah!).

Re the POV gun

Remember in the original radio show you had the 'Total Persective Vortex' which was kind of simalar. Invented by Trin Tragula to annoy his wife who was alsways telling him "Have some sense of proportion" it woudl show you your place in the whole of the universe.

I suppose the POV gun is the female revenge, but the film is the first place it appears.

Ah, well, maybe that's it then. I do remember that line though, so I'll have to go and read the books again to see where it came from. It's been a long time since I've read them!

And thanks for name-dropping like that. smiley - blush I can't believe I left the Beeb just before it all got really exciting!
