h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

Hello, im new here but im a huge fan of Douglas Adams.
I have been excited about the H2G2 becoming a movie, but some of the actors are bugging me.It says that Ford will be played by a rapper. I hate rap. Douglas Adams hated rap (it said this somewhere in The Salmon of Doubt, but I couldnt find where). I guess there is nothing I can do about this, I just wanted to express my opinion. I dont know anything about the other actors that I dont like, but what do you think?

You know, Mos Def started out as an actor. In the movie , he will be an actor. Ford will not rap. We will not see a rapping Ford in the Movie. In fact, I don't think Mos Def will even talk rythmically in the movie.

While Douglas didn't like rap, I'm fairly sure he did like acting (which is the more relevent of Mos Def's qualifications).

MJS: But he's not going to be playing a hip-hop Ford is he?

Garth: No. I think that would be the most appalling thing ever in the history of the world. And to be fair, I didn't know much about Mos Def before I met him, and didn't think it was going to be the right thing. That's why I say when you actually meet him he's the most wonderful actor first and foremost, but he's also incredibly funny, incredibly clever and just fits the brief in the most unexpected way.

I've seen him in a couple of films and he was awesome. Funnily enough, quite a few rappers have made pretty decent actors. Ice Cube and LL Cool J among them.

But as we keep saying, we should wait and see how this all turns out. They look to be pulling all the stops out to make this as fresh and original as they can, so there's lots of stuff that'll take the fans by surprise just as much as the newcomers.

Imagine if they got Snoop Dogg in instead of Mos Def.....

Knowing a teensy bit about the script, I think that would possibly work just as well.

Hi I think it would have been great to have had Jim Carey as Zaphod and Robin Williams as Ford. This will be weird to some but I also think Hugh Grant would make a good Arthur, Hope they use the original voice for the guide forget his name Was it something jones?. But typical holloywood waiting till the creative spark dies before making his film. Hope he enjoys it up there

Sadly, Peter Jones is no longer with us. I would imagine the voice of the book will be something different anyway.

You'll notice that casting of the voice actors for the Book and Marvin is yet to be announced...

didnt notice who was in the film only found out yesterday that film was being made. Still think Carey would be a great Zaphod he is mad enough, But as long as they do justice to the books who am I to worry whos in it as long as it entertains us all and isn`t to Americanised. Or am I being silly? Think Marvin looks great!!

Americanising it would totally spoil it, I agree.

That just struck me as funny -- particularly if you think of "Ford" as "car" instead of our character ...

Yeah, I don't know; it just struck me as hilarious. That said -- I am very, very excited about this casting. I'm especially thrilled with Sam Rockwell as Zaphod -- he made the movie for me in "Galaxy Quest," and I think he'll end up doing a fantastic Zaphod. But as everyone's said, we'll have to wait and see ...

Still. This has to be the most excited I've ever been about a movie.
