Cake or Death?

Er ... an introduction of me? Well, let me see ... I'm a 22-year-old, single (and happy about it), American gal who is currently embarking on the adventure of a lifetime (leaving hearth and home to move away to a Bigger City to pursue graduate studies in library science). I'm not very HAPPY about currently embarking on the adventure of a lifetime, as it's not in my nature, but I am, at least, trying to keep a sense of humour nontheless. That said ...

I have been a Hitchhiker fan for close to six years now, but it rather fell off my radar screen over time. Then I went out on the odd date back in December, saw the teaser preview for "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy," and had such a fit of excitement in the middle of the theater that I believe I completely and utterly terrified my date (particularly as seeing that he is _not_ a "Hitchhiker's" fan, in that he's somehow managed to get through 26 years of life without having ever heard of it, which I find astonishing). I was so excited I mostly couldn't pay attention to the rest of the movie, let alone, sorry to say, our date. Because the damage had been done -- I've never been so excited to see a movie preview in my whole life. My Hitchhiker obsession is back in full swing (and has only been enhanced by the release of the movie, which I saw opening day and which I thought was beyond amazing).

That said ... I'm usually more of a fantasy fan than sci-fi (there's a Harry Potter reference in my username there); but Hitchhiker's, of course, transcends genre barriers for most people anyway. And I slowly but surely on my way to becoming a sci-fi fanatic, particularly in regards to space travel and A.I. stuff; I'm discovering Issac Asimov, Philip K. Dick -- and, sadly, am slowly but surely morphing into a Trekkie ("Next Generation" ONLY, mind you!).

Other than that -- for hobbies I like to read, write, go to movies, sketch, take care of my beloved dog, knit, and try not to spend money on things I don't need. I graduated uni with a degree in English Literature and Writing, minor in history (mostly medieval) ... and as I loathe school, I find it highly ironic that I dove right back into it after only one semester off, but ah well. I am currently a would-be writer, and am looking forward to finishing the sci-fi short story I am currently working on, so that I can submit it to a magazine, have it rejected, and officially become an aspiring writer, which is definitely a step in the right direction.

I am mostly optimistic but have a long-practiced tendency to worry about anything and everything, making "DON'T PANIC" a real personal motto for me. Most "Hitchhiker Character" quizzes tell me I'm either Trillian or Ford Prefect -- which always pleases me, seeing as they're my favorite characters. (I have fallen madly in love with Mos Def's portrayal of Ford as well; but that is another story.)

"Here we are at the end of the universe, and you didn't even live yet! Boy, did you miss out." (Zaphod Beeblebrox)

An online quiz informed me that this is the Hitchhiker's quote I'm most like. Sad to say, however, I think I'm more likely to be the receiver of this quote than the utterer, but I'm young yet so maybe I can work on that ...

(More to come if I can think of something to say ...)

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
